Electrical safety is an important aspect of any house. When you first move into a house, know where your fuse box or circuit breaker is so you can find it when something goes wrong. If something goes wrong, turn off all appliances then after turning power back on plug them in one by one. Do the same with lights: turn off all lights and then turn them on one by one.

One thing to keep in mind when buying a house with a fuse panel: you may want to replace it with a circuit breaker because your insurance rates may be higher with a fuse panel.
