Shouldn't have a restriction on live links to new members, or at least make the minimum 5 posts.

As a new forum you want to encourage posts, even if it is inbound link motivated. The more posts, the more activity, then membership increases. Then it's time to increase the post count.

To draw an analogy from retail sales (especially a new store, restaurant, etc.). The ad goes in the mail for the free bottle of soda pop. Once the customer arrives for the free soda pop (in this case links) the customer stays awhile and buys more stuff (in this case posts to threads).

Sure, you will get the spammers, and the self-motivated (takers, not givers) types, but you will gain a few good people along the way.

Thanks Gary. Now I feel bad. I didn't mean to rock the boat or anything like that. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Anyway, I think it's a good idea. For good measure I'll wait until I have a few more posts!

Don't worry about it, after thinking about it I did jump it up a little high. I'm really looking to stop the members who sign up just for the link and have no posts.

Understood. I'm relatively new, so I gain from the inbound links, but I truly gain from the discussions. As a matter of fact, kensmith's detective work on another forum saved me from paying for some fraudulent text links!
